New Omani app developers graduate Sas Centre

The sixth batch of Omani app developers has graduated from the Sultanate’s Sas Mobile Apps Development Centre. The Information Technology Authority (ITA) hosted a graduation ceremony for the 48 developers who completed the three month course. The Sas Mobile course has been developed to train Omani students, jobseekers, freelancers, entrepreneurs and personnel in SMEs and startups, in software development and app creation for the Android, iOS and hybrid devices. The ceremony was attended by Dr Salim Bin Sultan Alruzaiqi, CEO of the ITA. The event also included presentations of the three best apps developed by graduates, including an NFC app for ordering food from the table while in a restaurant, an app to request household services and an app to allow nurseries and nannies to update parents on their children. The Sas Centre was launched in June 2016 to provide a quality platform and industry cluster to build and enhance national development skills, talent and capacity required to develop ideas into commercially sustainable mobile applications and businesses. Six batches of developer students have graduated from the training program to date, comprising 286 trainees. The program provide three months of comprehensive training in app development across multiple platforms. Ten graduates from each batch are then enrolled in a job attachment program (OJP) run by the centre to receive advanced training and the opportunity to work on specific app projects. Sas Centre for Mobile Apps Development also offers the centre labs and facilities for any organisation to conduct training programs, and in addition, the centre provides free consultancy services for university and college students for their graduation projects in mobile apps development, as well as for SMEs.
